After the crazy mid season finale, Supergirl is back and off to a very strong start.  The episode picks up with Kara being visited in her loft by Brainiac 5 (Brainy), a Legion member recently woken by Mon-El.  To Kara’s surprise, Brainy informs her she has been in a coma for the last 2 days after suffering a massive defeat at the hands of Reign.

With Supergirl missing in action, Reign is quick to bring justice to the city’s criminals while also declaring war on the American justice system.  The D.E.O. and Legion work to come up with a plan to stop her but the Legion are hesitant to physically get involved.

Mon-El and Imra reveal that each Legion member is carrying a secret code in their DNA that can save the world several hundred years from now.  If any of the Legion member dies before they return to their time, humanity will not survive.

J’onn, Alex and other members of the D.E.O. set up a phony bank robbery to lure in Reign and implement the Sun Down Protocol.  Here we truly see how powerful Reign is as she is able to withstand a Red Sun grenade, a giant lead chain and even a large Kryptonite necklace by easily removing it and breaking Alex’s leg while escaping.

Back in Kara’s dream state, she realizes that she may be trapped there because her subconscious wants her to see something, which brings her to a picture of her cat, Streaky.  Kara tells Brainy a story of how Streaky helped her feel more human on Earth by teaching her how to be gentle.

Imra convinces Mon-El to fight and it’s just in time as Reign is back at it, this time attacking a prison to take out as many prisoners as she can get her hands on.  There she finds Tom Coville praying and he offers to serve her.  Before she accepts, the Legion arrives while blasting Bon Jovi’s “Living on a Prayer”.

During the battle, Mon-El and Imra are fighting alongside Martian Manhunter but they are no match for Reign.  Brainy is flying the Legion ship and communicating with Kara in her dream state simultaneously.  Kara tells him to leave and focus on the battle to which he agrees.  Before leaving, he drops Kara a hint from Alex to help her finally realize that the only way to and wake up is to embrace her human side.

Kara wakes up and immediately goes to face Reign by attacking her head on to inject her with a syringe full of liquid Kryptonite. Reign is still able to escape and fly back to her fortress.

Reign recovers at her fortress and is told, much to her surprise, that there are more out there like her who will help her in her fight to cleanse every one of their sins.

This was a great episode to kick off the back half of the season and I can’t wait to see what twists and turns the rest of the season brings.

Brainiac 5 is a nice new addition to the show.  Despite his look, he carries a real warmness that won me over by the episode’s end.

My favorite scene in this episode is when J’onn shape shifted to imitate Kara while Lena was over to discuss her relationship with James.  I would love the show to utilize J’onn’s shape shifting abilities more as these scenes are usually the funny highlight of an episode.

What was your favorite part of the episode and how are you all feeling about this season?
