Each month our team of dedicated writers and DC fanatics will be nominating one person to enter the DCWorld Hall of Fame Monthly Semi Final. We will be each posting an article, to put to you the people, why our nominee should go into the HOF Final in December. Here is the second entry into the DCWorld Hall of Fame August semi-final…

My first choice for the DC World Hall of Fame was actually really easy for me. Although the possibilities are endless and there are plenty of Actors, Writers, Directors and characters who are deserving, there was only one that was ever going to be my first choice.

Heath Ledger’s Joker in The Dark Knight completely stole the show. The film itself has become one of the most critically acclaimed Comic-Book films ever, but every scene that features The Joker stands out from the rest of the film. What Heath Ledger and Director Christopher Nolan created was so memorable and impressive that still now, 9 years after the film’s release, this portrayal of The Joker is still seen as an outstanding contribution to the genre.

After Ledger’s tragic death in January 2008 he was awarded a posthumous Academy Award for his performance. Still now he is the only person to win a performance Oscar for a role in a Comic-Book movie. It was one of those rare displays that gains praise from critics and fans alike.

There is a scene in The Dark Knight that not only shows Heath Ledgers incredible acting ability but also the power and control of The Joker himself. The scene puts Gotham City’s greatest villain in an interrogation room with Christian Bale’s Batman, with The Dark Knight trying to get information out of The Joker. This scene for me is my favourite from any film I’ve seen because of the writing, the way its shot and especially because of Ledgers performance. It’s a scene that will be remembered for a very long time.

Other actors have created brilliant versions of the Clown Prince of Crime but its Heath Ledger’s portrayal that should be the first nomination inducted into the DC World Hall of Fame.
