The boring bit – There are SPOILERS ahead, so please do not read on if you haven’t seen this episode.

Second boring bit, it starts with a “Previously…” montage.

I tell you these things every week, my apologies, but the spoiler warning especially, must be always here…

One more thing, my apologies for the titles of the paragraphs, trying something different, using song lyrics (with subtle changes and one song per episode), that hopefully fit the story (but not necessarily the paragraph they’re heading). Ah, whatever, you’ll get the jist. This week, it’s AC/DC. Ok, I’ll stop rabbiting on now, on with the recap.

WANNA TELL YOU A STORY, ABOUT A WOMAN I KNOW

We start with Sara, who is about to leave the Waverider for some personal time, what with everything that has transpired before with her becoming (as said by the wonderful Caity Lotz) the Death Witch. Ray, Amaya and Nate are not keen on the idea, after all she is still their captain, but Sara is adamant (that’s adamant and not Adam Ant) that she’s taking some time. In the meantime, she needs an interim captain and, despite Ray kinda thinking she was choosing him, tells Amaya that she will be standing in.

ABOUT A WOMAN I KNOW, SHE STEALS THE SHOW

In another room on the ship, Zari is putting her hand to video game playing, while Mick is also there, but he’s cooking food with his new found Totem powers. Amaya enters and asks Mick if he is ready to start his training on how to handle the Fire Totem, being the new bearer and all. As she is thinking about getting this started, she is called to the bridge by Nate and Wally who have found an anachronism in Detroit, where Mari, Amaya’s granddaughter and Vixen has been seriously hurt. Amaya, despite her silent protestations, puts Zari in charge of Mick’s training.

SHE’S EXTREMELY PRETTY, SHE’S 5 FEET 9 INCHES TALL (According to Wiki. See, slight change to lyrics)

Ray is still trying to persuade Sara to stay on the ship when, out of the blue, #ControversialGary, boards the ship using his time courier. He arrives with his hands covering his eyes as he’s worried that he may arrive somewhere he doesn’t want to be and see something that he doesn’t want to see, that being any shenanigans between Ava and Sara. Gary isn’t aware that AvaLance are now Sara and Ava again due to their break up. Gary thinks that because Ava had not been at work for 3 days, she was on the Waverider. Oh dear, Ava is missing. Sara, being Sara, makes the decision to go find her. Sara, Ray and Gary use the time courier to go to Ava’s office at the Time Bureau and have a snoop around. They find that all of Ava’s personnel files have been erased.

34-24-35 YOU COULD SAY SHE’S GOT IT AAAAALLLLLLLLLL

In Detroit, Nate and Wally have arrived at the hospital where Mari is being kept and are talking to her stepfather who seems beside himself at what has happened. Suddenly, out of the corner of his eye, Nate spots Kuasa and makes a beeline for her. Wally does follow and between the two of them, they stop Kuasa getting away, and she explains to them that she is not there to hurt Mari, but to protect her.

NEVER HAD A WOMAN, NEVER HAD A WOMAN LIKE YOU

Sara, Ray and Gary then find details of Ava’s parents, who like is Fresno. They go to visit them to try and find out about their missing daughter. Her mother and father are at the house and they reveal that they haven’t spoken to Ava in months. Sara looks at photos around the room and questions the parents. Sara comes to the realisation that these people are not real. The “Sharpes” reveal that they were hired years ago to pose as Ava’s parent; they are nothing but actors. The three return to the Bureau when they run in to Ava. It’s a little frosty between the former AvaLance. When asked where she has been for the last few days, Ava states that she was visiting her parents in Fresno, something the three of them know isn’t true. Before Ava carries on with what she is doing, Sara manages to swipe Ava’s watch, which she hopes will give more information in her whereabouts.

DOIN’ ALL THE THINGS, DOIN’ ALL THE THINGS YOU DO

Kuasa takes Nate and Wally to the gym where Mari does her thing as Vixen and, after discussions, she agrees to help them, the Legends, to get hold of the last Totem before the Darhks, and Mallus, get to it.

AIN’T NO FAIRY STORY, AIN’T NO SKIN AND BONES

At the Time Bureau and Sara, Ray and Gary are looking more into the whereabouts of Ava over the last few days. Hacking in to her watch, they find files relating to Vancouver in 2213 and how it is designated as a “No-Fly Zone”. This causes obvious suspicion and they think that Ava herself may be an anachronism. Because of the no-fly zone, with the help of Gary, the three of them hijack the Time Bureaus’s Mothership and make their way forward in time to 2213.

BUT YOU GIVE IT ALL YOU’VE GOT, SEARCHIN FOR THESE TOTEM STONES (Really couldn’t have the real lyrics)

2213 and the three of them arrive. While looking they are unsure on exactly what they are looking for. They then start to realise that most of the residents in this time period look familiar. In fact, they all look like Ava Sharpe. Carrying on they then turn to find a building, a building that houses the Ava Corporation – yes, Ava is a clone.

YOU’RE A WHOLE LOTTA WOMAN, A WHOLE LOTTA WOMAN

Back at Mari’s gym and Nate and Kuasa are discussing the options on how to go about their task to get the Totem. They obviously want things their way. Kuasa believes they should lure the Darhks to them by offering up a Legend. Wally, on the other hand, thinks that he should travel to wherever they are and snatch the Totem at speed. It doesn’t really work like that and, after Wally speeds off, Nate agrees to Kuasa’s plan.

WHOLE LOTTA AVA, WHOLE LOTTA AVA, WHOLE LOTTA AVA, AND YOU’RE A WHOLE LOTTA WOMAN

Back to 2213 and the trio of Sara, Ray and Gary make their way to Ava Corporation, a facility used for the production of Ava clones. For info – Gary is beside himself that there are so many Ava’s about as it is something he dreams about. Anyway, in one of the labs, they discover a clone lying on a “gurney” (is that right? – John) and, unintentionally wake it up. The clone, one of many perfect specimens to police the society that has been created, realises that they have broken regulations and must, therefore, be exterminated (now we’re in Dalek / Doctor Who territory – John) and starts to attack them. Luckily, Sara being the fighter she is, knocks the clone straight out.

HONEY YOU CAN DO IT, DO IT TO ME ALL NIGHT LONG

Back in Detroit and Nate is being used as bait to get the Darhks to them. It works as the Darkhs travel to 2018 and, in exchange for Nate, they give Kuasa the Totem. Nice result, however, Nate soon realises that Kuasa has double crossed him and she leaves, leaving Nate tied up and with Damien and Nora/Mallus. Nate is surprised at the turnaround but, with her track record, maybe shouldn’t be.

ONLY ONE WHO TURNS ME

The threesome in 2213 are still searching when, all of a sudden, Ava, who realised that the Mothership had been taken from the Time Bureau arrives to figure out what is going on. They talk to Ava, believing that she knows what is really happening in 2213, however, this is not true and the shock she shows when she realises there are lots of Ava’s about the place, is priceless.

ONLY ONE WHO TURNS ME ON

Nora is threatening Nate with his life. If he can’t retrieve the rest of the Totems from the other Legends then he dies. Nora leaves and Nate is left there with Damien. Damien is obviously now scared of his daughter as she is being used by Mallus as a vessel. He starts to tell Nate about the frustrations of this and Mallus using her to enable him to be freed from the interdimensional prison. Surprisingly, the two start bonding, even after Damien has given Nate a little electric shock.

ALL THROUGH THE NIGHT TIME

Back in 2213 and Ava comes around. Still shocked at what has happened she starts to question what the hell is going on and about where they are.

RIGHT AROUND THE CLOCK, TO MY SURPRISE, AVA NEVER STOPS

On the Waverider, Zari is trying to train Mick on the use of his Totem. It, none too surprisingly, isn’t going too well as Mick is uneager to train. They start to argue/fight over this and Zari ends up getting the better of Mick and puts him in a spin.

Also on the Waverider, Amaya is chatting with Wally when Kuasa makes an appearance interrupting them. Kuasa has brought the Totem to them, but also lets them know that she has traded Nate for it. Basically, he isn’t her grandfather and without him, she will live, otherwise she won’t have ever existed.

SHE’S A WHOLE LOTTA WOMAN

As the foursome, now, of Sara, Ava, Ray and Gary are trying to escape from the cloning building when they are stopped by Garys dream a small army of Ava Sharpe’s in combat uniform. Unfortunately, Ava then comes to the realisation that she, herself, must be a clone, despite what Sara tells her, she is more real than anyone.

A WHOLE LOTTA WOMAN

Back in 2018 and, because of their apparent bonding, Damien is now, well, pretending to torture Nate. The noises that are being made are loud enough for Nora/Mallus to think that it is real. Well, that’s what they thought anyway, as Nora is stood there watching for a moment. Very soon, Amaya and Wally burst in, Wally goes, speedily to try and stop Nora, but she is way too clever for him and takes away his speed for a moment, throwing him across the room.

A WHOLE LOTTA AVA!

In 2213, Ava poses as one of the clones and starts to lead away the other 3 of Sara, Gary and Ray, telling the others that she is taking them away to be exterminated. This is working a treat, until the Ava that Sara knocked out earlier, distinguishable because she is wearing something different and her hair is down, comes around and tells all the other clones different. A fight breaks out and the foursome are available to overcome the small army of kickass Ava’s, knocking them all out. The “real” Ava comes around, she’s all woman and she’s keeping that uniform.

A WHOLE LOTTA AVA!

Back again to 2018 and, Amaya, who has been under a spell from Nora manages to break free. At this time Kuasa returns to help and she unties Nate. Another foursome s formed in this episode as Amaya, Nate, Wally and Kuasa join forces to take on Nora. Unfortunately, it doesn’t all go to plan as Nora takes out Kuasa and rips the Water Totem out from her chest, killing her. The Darhks take their leave.

SHE’S A WHOLE LOTTA WOMAN-MAN-MAN-MAN-MAN-MAN-MAN-MAN YEAH YEAH!

Back on the Waverider and both teams have returned. Before they go any further, Ray takes Gary off to use a memory flash on him, therefore making him forget about 2213.

Nate tries to talk to Amaya about the death of Kuasa and it has made her question whether she wants to be with Nate or not.

Zari, who has been fasting all episode, has come to the end of it and is now having some food, sat at the table with Mick, who she tries to give some of the green stuff to eat. Mick doesn’t take to that, no surprise. They do start to, kind of, bond. Zari mentions feeling Kuasa dying and Mick felt it to.

Sara and Ava are having a drink together and, putting all things together, realise that Rip Hunter is the one who wiped Ava’s personnel file at the Bureau clear. Sara promises Ava that they will get to the bottom of why.

Finally, Amaya who is still reeling from the death of Kuasa, has gone to take control of a jumpship. She wants to change the past and it looks like she’s going to try and save Kuasa from being killed.

Ok, so there was lot going on in this episode and, for the most part it was good. However, I couldn’t call it a great episode.

I was really looking forward to finding out more about Ava and who she really is. I was expecting something bigger, something that may well pull at the heart strings with her relationship with Sara. However, we find that she is a clone. I was a little deflated. Don’t get me wrong, see more Jes Macallan is always welcome (as #ControversialGary) but this seemed such a cop out. I was expecting a lot more.

However, Jes Macallan was the star of the show, but as real Ava. Despite my issues with the clone story, she played her part so well. The realisation of who she is did bring plenty of emotion from her.

The Darhks being back, well, Nora was fine and is suitably creepy with being taken over by Mallus, but Damien? No, this is a guy who wants to rule the world, and he’s playing silly buggers with Nate? Turned him in to nothing more than a comedy part, which as much as I am not a fan of the character, this makes him worse.

The death of Kuasa, although she has been a bad ‘un was quite an emotional jolt and I didn’t expect that.

Amaya makes a better pirate captain than she did Waverider captain. Nice to see Nate steel up, not happened for a while.

I hope that Sara and Ava realise that, what Rip has done, has been done for the both of them. I certainly hope it has anyway. Despite what has come before, I do think Rip has their best interests at heart.

Gary – kinda back to being annoying, after his decent turn last episode. However, his dreams of multiple Ava’s – I can see why he might enjoy that.

Mick / Zari – you know what? I really enjoyed these scenes. Yes, Mick is hard to work with/train up but the way that this all came full circle and they ended up sat, eating together was a lovely touch. Mick may come across as a hard ass but, on realisation that Kuasa had dies, you could see that little bit of emotion in his face, which happened again at the end. That is all credit to Dominic Purcell to be fair. And Zari, she may look like she wouldn’t hurt you but, my word, I would not get on the wrong side of her at all.

All in all, a good episode, not great, so I’ll give it a 7/10 and Legends… is still my favourite CW show.

Hope you have enjoyed reading this latest recap; as always please feel free to leave any comments please do so below or on any of our social media pages, we always like to hear from you guys.
