March 24 – My first time going to WonderCon was complete with attending the Krypton panel. Moderated by TV Insider’s Damian Holbrook with panelists Cameron Welsh (Executive Producer), Wallis Day (Nyssa-Vex), Cameron Cuffe (Seg-El), Georgina Campbell (Lyta-Zod), Shaun Sipos (Adam Strange), and Dan Evans (DC Vice President of Creative Affairs) were there to answer questions to an almost packed house. Eager fans were ready to hear what this new show has in store for a different story that has yet to have been told of the doomed planet and the House of El.

The road to Krypton started in 2014. “To make something fantastic takes time,” said Dan Evans. There were many reshoots for the pilot episode that aired on March 21st. In fact, 25% is original footage from the first shooting of the pilot. In other words, the creators and producers wanted this show to be picked up. Also, the character Adam Strange was not part of the original concept. And to make matters a little hectic the original shooting location changed. “Almost all the sets are practical,” said Cameron Cuffe. “They are genuinely there in Belfast right now. And when we changed our location from Belgrade, Serbia to Belfast, Northern Ireland some of the sets just didn’t make it over. And there was a chance for us to make it even bigger, better, and more detailed.”

The writers are not focusing on a storyline already told. They are taking bits and pieces from everything and using reference from Superman: World of Krypton by John Byrne. DC is allowing them to use a treasure trove of characters. So a character like Adam Strange, whom many people do not know, can make it to the screen for the first time and be introduced to a new audience. And the show is not a superhero show like you see on the CW network. There will be no crime fighting. And the possibility of crossing over with the shows on CW, even though there is time travel involved in all shows, will not happen. “Krypton is its own show,” said Cameron Welsh.

I call these spoilers because they are a little bit more inside information on the show. So if you want to read ahead you can. Or you can just wait to find out.
1. Audiences will see 2018 and where Adam Strange comes from. (We already know it has something to do with Detroit. Costumes could have picked any team or no team at all. But they picked the Detroit Tigers. So there’s a reason.)
2. Characters drastically change from episode 1 to 10. They are completely different than how they are in the pilot.
3. Nyssa does develop feelings for Seg.
4. Lyta does eventually meet Nyssa.
5. Adam Strange and Seg become like Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid and get into trouble.
