“Dye Hard”

Written by: Jamiesen Borak

Directed by: Vinton Heuck

Starring: Kaley Cuoco, Lake Bell, Alan Tudyk, Ron Funches, J.B. Smoove, Jason Alexander, Tony Hale, Matt Oberg, Diedrich Bader, Christopher Meloni, James Adomian

Synopsis “Fresh off Ivy rebuffing her and now alone on Christmas Eve, Harley reconnects with a now sane Joker. Meanwhile Gordon deals with the rising ParaDemon infestation, only to end up drawn into chaos at Wayne Tower as the pests find themselves with a new mysterious master.”

The fun trip we went on last week with Ivy and Kite Man’s Bachelor/Bachelorette parties was a nice distraction from the chaos that is Gotham city. Dye Hard brings us back to reality with the mess and destruction Harley left behind. I completely forgot there was an army of ParaDemons let loose in Gotham and poor Jim Gordon was left to pick up the pieces. No sign of Batgirl this week but Jim appears to have done a great job in rebuilding the GCPD.

ITS NO JOKE

Harley is such an upbeat character but this is definitely the most depressed and vulnerable we have seen her. With our leading lady in the state who else would she find companionship in but the Joker. Only its not the Mister J we know, this is a clean cut, perfectly sane version of the Joker with no memory of his past.

The ending to this episode certainly sets up the groundwork to a chaotic ending of season two. With so many questions left unanswered regarding Harley and Ivy, Ivy and Kite Man, Harley and Joker I am very excited to see how things develop over the next few weeks.

MVP

The the first and possibly final time Jason Alexander AKA Sy Borgman gets my MVP this week. As wonderful and the leads Harley and Ivy are in this show it would not be as complete or funny without its amazing supporting cast. Clayface and King Shark have shone repeatedly throughout the two seasons which often over shadows the Dynamic Sy brings to the group. Dye Hard lets Sy have a little more freedom and wins my MVP not for his humour but for his heart he brings to the episode. A warming embrace with Harley shines the light in him as more than her landlord but more as a father figure. One final act of selfishness shows Harley just how much she means to him and in return how much he means to her.

Jason Alexander is a celebrated comedic actor so was a brilliant catch for the show with previous roles on shows like Seinfeld, Young Sheldon and Cone Heads. His deadpan reactions to certain scenes and execution in sharp one liners have proved to be perfect casting in such a unique character.
