Hey all, seems like it’s been a long time since we had one of these appear on the site.  However, fear not because Confessions of a DC Geek is back and celebrating getting to a quarter of a century.  We’ve come a long way since #1.

This time up we have a fellow member of the DC World team, Tony Quant who has stepped up, confessing all.  So, enough from me, on with the interview.

Confessions of a DC Geek #25

JH@DCW: First of all, would you mind telling me a bit about yourself – name, age (if willing), where you’re from and what you do for a living or anything else you wish to mention?#

TQ: My name is Tony Quant and I am 33 years old hailing from Romford, Essex! I work for a Bank and am the proud father of Alfie who is a huge superhero fan which gives me a good excuse to watch/read as much superhero stuff as I can!

Who is your favourite DC Superhero and why?

It has to be Batman for me as I grew up a huge fan of his and have continued to be a fan throughout the numerous incarnations of his character. Personal favourite has been Christian Bale who I think just played the character down to a tee!

Who is your favourite DC Villain? Why this character?

I am definitely more of a fan of villains which may make me a bit weird but I have always warmed to them regardless of movie. So right now I would have to say that The Joker is my number one villain! But I also appreciate the villainous ways of Lex Luthor, Catwoman, Sinestro, Harley Quinn and Black Manta to name a few!

Away from the two characters mentioned above, is there another character within the DC Universe that you would consider a favourite?

I do love Aquaman in his current incarnation.

TV shows – which is your favourite DC effort, past or present, live action or animated?

I really enjoyed Smallville which seems like a lifetime ago. I must admit I am not a huge animated fan but the joys of having a 9 year old exposed me to Team Titans which was a great show and movie! I absolutely loved Shazam which I have watched endless times.

What is your favourite DC Movie?

The Dark Knight has to be my favourite!

The DC Universe has featured many, many actors who have appeared on TV and in the movies, not forgetting a wealth of voice actors who lend their skills to animated movies/series’, so I ask you – who is your favourite actor, anyone who has made any kind of appearance within a DC creation?

I am a huge fan of Zachary Levi so would have to say him!

Comics – do you read them? And if you do, is there a series or graphic novel that you would call your favourite?

I used to read a lot of comics and graphic novels but then sort of fell out of loop with them. I would have to say Killing Joke is my favourite though.

DC vs Marvel – Social media seems to be a hotspot for this kind of talk. Sometimes, and I have seen this recently from fans of both brands, it can become turn vitriolic. I find it ridiculous myself and I love both DC and Marvel; however I ask, what is your take on it?

Its very easy for people to hide behind social media and call out stuff that is largely irrelevant. I just say that people should enjoy what they enjoy and not worry/care about anyone else. Heck I am a huge Marvel fan but that doesn’t stop me loving DC also. Why choose a side when you can enjoy both?

You see your parents slain in an alley and you run away, throwing yourself in to the nearest swamp, being electrocuted on the way – you may or may not gain powers but you make the choice to become someone else, something else. Who do you become, what powers do you gain (if any) and what does your alternate ego wear to hide your identity?

The power I gain allows me to switch off peoples mobile phones with the click of my fingers. I don’t change anything about my appearance but I just smile suitably on the train to work as people in the carriage look confused when their beloved mobile phone stops working.

Apparel – do you wear any clothing that relates to DC Comics and its Universe? If so, do you have a favourite item of clothing that is still worn aplenty?

The only piece of DC apparel I own is my DC World t-shirt!

Conventions – do you attend them and, if so, do you have a favourite convention that you have been to?

I have only ever attended the MCM London Comic Con’s and I have been going for the last few years. Really enjoy the show and how close to home it is for me!

This editions’ BIG question/s:

BIG Q1). Joker – it’s out, I believe you’ve seen the movie (?) and the reviews have been coming thick and fast (mostly good of course). However, it seems to have caused some controversy and it has been said that people have walked out of their screenings due to it being “too dark”. Having not seen it myself I can’t comment, but I would be very interested in reading your thoughts on this.

My favourite movie of the year without a shadow of a doubt! Just pure brilliance. If you walked out of the movie then more fool you!

BIG Q2). The annual CW Show crossover is coming soon and is one of the most anticipated stories to have been told in the so-called Arrowverse. It is common knowledge that the number of actors with an association to the DC World is rather large. Do you feel that this will add a certain something to the story or could it be such a love letter to fans that it might hinder the story in any way?

I think anything new is exciting and should be a great addition. I think that sometimes people read too much in to things and lower the expectations for everyone so I like to go in with an open mind!

If you are happy to do so, could you please tell our readers where we may find you online (Twitter, YouTube, Blogs etc.)?
