“Immortal Kombat”

Synopsis “Supergirl realises that in order to stop Lex and Leviathan, she must work with Lena; Nia struggles with what her dreams are trying to tell her; Brainy realises there is only one way to stop Lex..”

The series finale which was a little sooner than planned. With the ongoing Covid-19 pandemic Supergirl has closed the season early due to all production being shut down.

I make reference to this because it’s a fair excuse as to why the season finale didn’t feel quite like a real finale. Much like with the Flash TV series which has also closed early on a cliffhanger.

SUPER FRIENDS

Finally after spending so long apart Kara and Lena are talking again. This is something I have been waiting to happen for so long. I’m a firm believer they make better friends than enemies. This is for their characters and for the show as a whole.

Seeing the pair back together and working side by side was great and hopefully will carry over to season 6. Only time will tell if they will get back the solidarity they had in the early seasons.

WORDS OVER FORCE

The message to this episode was clearly that words are more powerful than fists. Although this was an action packed episode most of it happens away from the main story and acts as more a distraction. J’onn, Nia, M’egan and Alex go head to head with Leviathan in some impressive action sequences.

The real action involves Supergirl and Brainy talking their way into saving the world. Some long monologues this week for the pair really highlighting Melissa Benoist and Jesse Rath’s talents.

FINAL THOUGHTS

Immortal Kombat a good episode which would have lined up the season finale really well. David Harewood once again was the director bringing his talents behind the camera. One particular scene which stood out was where Supergirl goes inside Obsidian to help the people trapped.

It’s the end of the season but there is still a lot of questions to be answered. Already confirmed episode 20 had been filmed hopefully means there wont be a delay in the start of season 6.
