Synopsis “Supergirl and the team go head-to-head against Rama Khan and Leviathan; Lena and Lex must join forces when Project Non Nocere fails, leaving the two siblings in serious danger.”

The Missing Link is one of the best Supergirl episodes this season. What an amazing episode full of mystery, action and suspense. A wonderfully layered episode bringing together multiple story lines as we build towards the season finale.

MARTIAN MANHUNTER

J’onn J’onzz looked amazing this week in his new suit and had some moving moments alongside Miss Martian. A relationship which has been building over the past couple of seasons finally looks to be blossoming. As we never quite get happy endings in these shows im sure this is a story that will draw on into season six.

LEVIATHAN

Rama Khan was back with a bang this week and had a devastating effect on the DEO and team Supergirl. Lex was once again at the heart of all things chaotic but some very clever writing keeps us guessing as to who is really in control. Is Lex playing Leviathan or are they playing him?

This is what also brings up the strongest part of the episode between Lex and Lena. Their relationship has also been rocky but is Lena finally seeing the light? There is one particular scene between the two of them where the true, evil Lex comes out and it is terrifying. The way Lex and Lena square up to each other is some of the best acting this show has seen.

the missing link

Will this be the course correction Lena needed to bring her back to the side of the heros? I never liked Lena as a villain and I find her best when she is working with Supergirl. Hopefully the momentum is building towards a climatic season finale with Lena and Kara once again reunited.

FINAL THOUGHTS

Huge praise this week to Dana Horgan & J. Holtham for writing a brilliantly crafted episode giving multiple characters equal time in the spotlight and bringing together many plot points. The side stories between William and Kelly, Nia and Brainy, Alex and Pete (Guest star Sean Astin) all serve a purpose and play into the larger narrative. I enjoyed how these stories actually served a purpose and were not just there to fill time.

Avi Youabian the director also deserves credit from bringing this all together and wrapping it up in 40 minutes. With so much going on it could have felt rushed but it didn’t, the flow between stories and the blend of action with dialogue was perfect. There was also some new CGI this week when Rama Khan was using his powers and the way he looked as he breaks down into rock and blows away was perfect.
