so here we go….

Paul.

Hi Cameron and thank you for taking the time to chat with us at DC World.

Now we are massive Krypton Fans and wanted to ask a few questions on your career and what led up to starring on this incredible tv show

You had started you acting career in theatre and tv shows, what was it like when you got the role of Seg-El on the Krypton tv series?

Cameron.

Quite literally unbelievable.  At the point in my career when “Krypton” came along, I was still playing supporting roles in theatre and tv costume dramas.  I was really enjoying it but all the big superhero stuff seemed so far off to me.  I was always a fan of comic book movies and I was content to remain a fan.  I just didn’t think I would become a part of it!!

Paul.

Did you know much about Krypton and the mythology of it before getting the role and have you learnt some new things about the Man of Steel and also being a Kryptonian?

Cameron.

One of the greatest assets that I had coming into the project was that I was a fan.  I’ve been reading comics since I was 8.  I grew up with the animated series, I went to the movies, I read the books.  I was the most avid fan I knew.  All of that knowledge came in really handy when I walked onto set.  I knew the universe I was stepping into like most people would know the lyrics to their favourite songs.

Paul.

I read you had to gain around 7KG of muscle to look the part of Superman’s grandfather on Krypton, what was this fitness regime like and what lessons have you learnt on fitness?

Cameron.

The physical aspect of the job is tremendous.  It’s a lot of work but a lot of fun too.  The first stage is bulking up which takes a few months.  I was in the gym for hours on end doing very heavy compound lifts, and eating as much chicken and veg as I possibly could.  For the last 8 weeks I was leaning out.  That involved an hour of heavy circuits, a four mile run, and a two hour MMA session which involved pad work, bag work and light sparring.  It was brutal, but I enjoyed it.  I enjoy pushing myself.  You learn a lot about yourself when you have to be disciplined.  It taught me a lot about perseverance, about mindset and that really your mental strength is what dictates the terms of your physical strength.

Paul.

Coming into the DC universe on Krypton do you follow any other superhero tv shows and do you have any favourites?

Cameron.

The Superman Animated Series was always my favourite growing up.  Batman too, Justice League, Batman Beyond, JLU, and later Young Justice which is beyond brilliant.  Those shows all hold up tremendously well.  There’s an argument to be made that they’re still the pinnacle of superheroes on screen.

Paul.

Had you ever been to a comic con before San Diego and what was this experience like and would you love to to a UK convention to meet fans one day?

Cameron.

San Diego 2017 was my first convention experience.  As a fan it was everything I hoped it would be and more.  This year’s Comic-Con was even better!  I’ve been very lucky to have done a few conventions now and I have to say I love the experience.  When it comes to comic books I’m just a big fan.

I remember what it was like when I was a kid and liking comic books wasn’t cool.  I kept my passion for it to myself.  When I go to a convention I meet thousands of fans just like me, who are deeply passionate about these stories and enjoy talking about them with me.  That’s a real gift I never thought I’d experience.  I would love to do more, both here at home in the UK and wherever else will have me!

Paul.

Do you have a favourite actor and are there any roles you would like to play in the future?

Cameron.

It’s always hard to pick my favourite actor but I’ll say I’m a sucker for old Hollywood.  Paul Newman, Lauren Bacall, Sydney Poitier, Judy Garland, Peter O’Toole… these are the people I grew up watching and they’re the idols I still look up to now.

As for roles I’d like to play… that’s an even harder question.  The best way I can answer it is to say that I just want to do everything.  Big parts, small parts, Big movies, Independent movies, Rom-Coms, Horror Films, Comic Book Movies, Shakespeare…. all of it.  I love what I do, I just want to do it as much as I can.

Paul.

After it’s USA success Can you tell us anything about Krypton season two or what to expect in 2019?

Cameron.

Season 2 of Krypton is going to be a wild ride.  There is no stopping, there is no slowing down.  Season 1 introduced you to the world, and the characters and told you their first adventure.  Season 2 throws you in at the deep end and holds nothing back.  It’s character driven, wild, epic, hilarious, and tragic.  If you liked last season… and even if you didn’t… I can promise you this story isn’t over….. not by a long shot.

Paul.

My final question has to be about Superheroes, do you have a favourite and what is it you love about this character?

Cameron.

Genuinely it was always Superman.  He’s always been there for me.  I always wanted to be him.  He represents the best of humanity.  His best stories are always about the value of hope, compassion and courage.  Those values are timeless and will always be important.

That’s it from us and May I thank you Cameron for your time answering our questions and we will look forward to Krypton season 2 returning in 2019.

Krypton season one is airing now in the UK on E4.
