If you have been following DCWorld for a while you will all know that Superman is our Editor in-Chief’s favourite superhero.  He grew up with him as a child and wouldn’t know anything DC if it wasn’t for Christopher Reeve.

For me, the first superhero movie I remember watching was the George Clooney Batman movie.  A lot of people slate this film and it was by far not the best, but as an excited 8 year old, I thought it was amazing.  These days not so much.

All of the selling for Justice League so far has been done without any mention of Green Lantern or of course, Superman.  While browsing the web this evening I found this post by Scott Mendleson for Forbes and felt the need to put an alternative opinion out there.

Batman vs Superman was a disaster film, the only positive for me being when Batman put Superman in his place!  The story was dragged out and I felt for a lot of the film we didn’t really get very far.

Suicide Squad was a little better, a little lighter, probably the equivalent to The CW’s Legends of Tomorrow for the DCEU.

Wonder Woman, then showed that we don’t need Batman or Superman for a kick ass superhero movie.

Despite popular opinion for me, the Marvel universe movies are getting gradually worse, while the DCEU is gradually starting to get it right.  Yes, Superman and Batman are the biggest names for a lot of people in the DCEU, but for me the name’s we need to be excited about are Wonder Woman, Aquaman and Cyborg.  Although portrayed before in certain other mediums, never have we seen them to this extent in modern cinema.  The focus being on these heroes is what is getting people excited about Justice League.

It doesn’t matter that this is technically the third Superman movie, or that we haven’t seen much to prove that Affleck will be a great Batman (for me I already think he’s better than Christian Bale).

It also doesn’t matter that Stephen Amell didn’t think it was cool to cast Ezra Miller as Flash instead of Grant Gustin.

The important thing is that Justice League looks like it is going to be an awesome film, and after Wonder Woman it really has to be everything that DC fans are preying for it to be.  It’s getting sales without Superman, and for me i wouldn’t be at a loss if Superman didn’t appear at all.

With Cyborg, Flash, Wonder Woman, Aquaman, Batman and possibly also a Green Lantern, do we really need the man that puts his glasses on and makes everybody oblivious that he’s a hero?  For me, not at all.  However,  I am excited to see how they bring him back, and to see the relationship he will have with Batman after Superman gave his life to kill Doomsday in BvS.

I really hope DC keeps the cool factor with this film and doesn’t start to go down the Marvel road.  This is DC’s chance to shine, and hopefully Justice League is the start of a long road of success for DC!
